4 Ways to Red Light Your Walk #ChristTalk

I was one of those new believers that would blame others for my non progression. Not realizing that I was my own hindrance. You may be thinking “ how am I hindering myself?”. Well grab a pencil and paper, and stay for a while.

1. Wanting things to happen quickly :
Ecclesiastes 3:1
A Time for Everything
3 "For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.“
There is no such thing as overnight success.” God has spoken to you about something, and you want it now. God has given you a vision, and you want it now. God’s word says his light will bring you out of darkness, and you want to be out now. God has promised restoration, and you want to be restored now. No one likes to wait, but with God you will have to wait. Do not get me wrong God can do things quickly, and I want that most of the time. Sometimes God wants you to wait, so your trust and faith can increase. When you start to rush God you become impatient. When you become impatient you start to do things on your own. When you step out independently you will most likely fail. All God wants you to do is wait on him in the season you are in.

2. Comparing your journey :
Galatians 6:4
4 "Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else."

I don’t know anyone who has not done this before. You are looking at others and wishing you can be where they are. Truth is you do not know what that person went through to get where they are. You do not know what God has brought them out of, or how their steps are ordered. Comparison is the thief of joy, and the devil wants to kill, steal, and destroy. When you focus on God, and your walk that door won’t open. There is nothing like staying in your own lane doing the work of God, and at the end getting the eternal prize! You have to remember that you are wonderfully made, and God has amazing things in store for you. I want you to practice believing that, and stop worrying about what others are doing.

3. Holding on to your past :
Isaiah 43:18-19
18 “But forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
19 For I am about to do something new.

I love this scripture!!!!!! when God told me last year I was holding onto my life I was confused. God was saying “ Le’nae you are holding onto your old life when I have a new one I want to give you.” Holding on to your past, but wanting what God has for you will not work. You can not have both, you have to choose. I know you want love, joy, peace, forgiveness, self control, patience, a pure heart, and the blessings that God has for you. You can have all of that by letting go of the former things. He wants to do something new within you, and you have to make room for that. I am a testimony in this area! There is nothing better than stepping into who you are in Christ. Your old life is gone, and it does not affect your future with God. You are new and improved, so wear your crown with confidence.

4. Being hard on yourself :
Philippians 4:8
8 "And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."
This has to be the biggest thing that can hinder your walk with Christ. The enemy has a field day with this one. You have fallen short, and think that God is mad at you. Here comes the devil “God is disappointed in you”, “You are not worthy to be His child”, “You keep messing up He will never use you.” The devil is a liar and that’s all he feeds. Jesus knew you were going to make mistakes, and he forgives you. His grace and mercy is upon you, and He will never be disappointed in you. When you have God’s truth embedded in your mind there will be no room for the lies. I struggled with this one too. Feeling like I was a failure, and I still have my days. The thing is I now retrain my thoughts to what is true!! It took me a while, but I am doing it. You can do it too, keep pressing.

A lot of these habits have been with you for a long time. You may be thinking, “How can I stop doing these things?” You can focus on God, read your word, retrain your thought life, and trust him. He wants you to grow spiritually, and when you are in the way there is no growth. It will be some hard times, but like I learned on Sunday, you keep praising your way through. God is a Father who encourages and supports His children. He will be with you all the way to the finish line.
